Synthosphere is a functional music box publication that explores the complexities of interpersonal communication through sound, touch, and text. At its core is the question: how do we translate internal experience into something legible to others?
Combining hand-punched music box sheets, fictional dialogue, and visual-coded systems, Synthosphere invites readers to interact with cognition as a dynamic, embodied process. The publication centers on two characters, Bug and Melody, who navigate a world where their inner lives feel alien; both to themselves and to each other. Their fragmented conversation unfolds across pages as sound, rhythm, and language.
Rather than reducing cognition to fixed styles or traits, Synthosphere frames it as multimodal: shaped by memory, emotion, and technologies of expression. Each page functions as a score, a conversation starter, and an emotional landscape. It asks the reader not just to read or listen, but to feel, decode, and reflect.
Synthosphere is both a narrative and an instrument, offering an intimate and experimental space to explore how we make meaning together when language is not enough.
